Cricket Wireless

We’ve been getting a lot of questions about how texting works with Cricket Wireless. Well, here you go! If you’ve got a Cricket phone, here’s what you need to know about SMS.

  • Maximum message length: 160 characters
  • What happens to longer messages: Unknown
  • Cost per message: Free to receive messages; to send messages, you need to sign up for a plan that includes text messaging. Most plans include unlimited messaging to U.S. and Canada. Messages to Mexico cost $0.10 and other international messages cost $0.15 each (except Canada).
  • More information: Cricket Wireless Text Messaging Support
  • Sending email to a Cricket phone: Your address is [10-digit-phone-number]@sms.mycricket.com. For example, if your phone number is 123-456-7890, your email address would be 1234567890@sms.mycricket.com.
  • If you want to receive multimedia messages (pictures, music and short videos) you use a similar address: 1234567890@mms.mycricket.com (just change the “sms” part of the address to “mms”).

To send a message to a Cricket subscriber (or up to 5 subscribers at a time), use the Cricket Wireless send a text form online. It’s free!

I just switched phones from an galaxy s5, to the s5 ative but the message center number has been changed … how do I find the correct number so I can restore outgoing text on my phone?

  2. Ron says:

To make Cricket work, your email server must have an SPF (sender policy framework) record for your domain. This SPF record is to prevent spamming and spoofing. If you have your own hosted email domain, check with your provider to see how you add an SPF record to your DNS entry.

    Doesn’t work now.
    It used to work fine.

What did cricket do to mess it up ?

    • Drew says:

As “L” said above, I used to be able to send texts to a Cricket user from my email account using @sms.mycricket.com and @mms.mycricket.com…but now I just get a return email with the notice “The e-mail system was unable to deliver the message, but did not report a specific reason. Check the address and try again. If it still fails, contact your system administrator.” She used to be able to reply to me and it would come right back to my email.

Anybody else able to get this phone@sms.mycricket.com to work anymore?

      Thanks

As p/what Drew says. I cannot get email messages sent to my cricket phone any more. It comes back w/a undeliverable message. It used to work. Why has it changed and can someoned tell me if it is fixed.

Here is what has been going on.
Mail Servers are now using another technique to try and stop spam. So they have added the need to insert a record into the DNS of your domain if you are suing your own, or who ever ISP you are using. I just completed doing this with mine and it now works.
Have a TXT record created in notepad with the correct information.
Please allow two hours for it to propagate.

To see if it has propagated through the system you may go to this website and look at DNS records tab. You should see your new TXT file listed there. Have someone at server admin level create this file and add it toy your DNS. Its actually pretty simple if you have your own hosting and control panel. If your using another smtp emailer then contact them to create the Sender Policy Framework’ DNS TXT, file. Here is a wizard to help you create the small little sentence/record. http://www.mtgsy.net/dns/spfwizard.php

        Here is an example TXT.
        example.com. IN TXT “v=spf1 a mx -all”

I did this and it worked and is still working.

When I sign up for the 1234567890@sms.mycricket.com account, they are suppose to send a confirmation message to my phone with the validation link provided in the message so that I can validate the 1234567890@sms.mycricket.com account but for some reason the confirmation link is not provided. the sentence in the message only goes about half way. The message reads """" [Facebook Contact Email Confirmation] Hey (my name here),1010You recently entered a new contact email address. To confirm …""""" and then the message stops. Its as if it was about to give me the confirmation link but the message gets cut off. Does anybody know how to resolve this.
